Warren Haynes Back with Another Christmas Jam

7 Nov. 2005  •  Christmas News

Even the hardest working man in show business isn’t too busy to give back this holiday season.

On December 17th Warren Haynes will be putting on his annual Christmas Jam. The gathering of jamming musicians will take place in the Civic Centre Arena in Ashevill, North Carolina, and money raised will go to Habitat for Humanity.

“The Christmas Jam started 17 years ago as an opportunity for local musicians to jam at the one time of year they were all in town at the same time,” Haynes said in a press release. “Back then, we gave the money to whatever charity we felt like. As the event grew and we became aware of Habitat for Humanity, we settled on them because we believe in the organization and know the money goes where its supposed to. When your work is music, its easy and fun to give back.”

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization that uses volunteer labour to build housing for those in need. Last year the Christmas Jam raised $100,000.

This year’s line up includes a slew of musicians who are known for their jammy improvisational style, much like Haynes himself. Aside from Haynes’ band, Gov’t Mule, the Jam will feature Trey Anastasio, who is newly solo after Phish’s split, and indie rock guitarist Edwin McCain, who won some commercial success with his 1998 single “I’ll Be.”

Also rocking the stage will be Electric Hot Tuna, Audley Freed, Kevn Kinney, Ray LaMontagne, John Medeski, Ivan Neville, Dave Schools, Jon Scofield, Dr. Ralph Stanley, Marty Stuart, and Paterson Hood and Jason Isbell from the Drive By Truckers. More performers may be added as they are confirmed.

The festivities will begin the day before with local radio station WNCW doing a live pre-jam broadcast on December 16th.

Past performers include Haynes’ other act, the Allman Brothers Band, as well as Blues Traveler, Phil Lesh, and the Neville Brothers, to name a few.
